Bucerias
BY JESUS DE AVILA - EDITOR OF PVMIRROR

BuceriasIt is the town in Banderas Bay that has developed most rapidly in the last 5 years. It is located north of Puerto Vallarta after Nuevo Vallarta, approximately some 15 minutes from the international airport.

In the center of the village there is a constant activity, especially in the streets adjoining the main square where the open air market of arts and crafts, souvenirs and gifts is open every day. Walking through this market you perceive the fragrance of birria, barbecue and grilled meat, which are sold in tacos and which are very popular for breakfast amongst the locals and national visitors. While all of this is taking place, you can perceive an atmosphere of tranquility in the cobble stone streets of the residential areas with ocean views, enticing to take a stroll.

This town consists of 3 main areas; one is found on the eastern side of the highway crossing town. Another area is the northern residential zone, where we find the majority of the smaller and medium size hotels and bungalows which are surrounded by huge and well kept residences, most of which were built more than two decades ago. The third area is the southern residential zone, which starts in the center of town towards the area of Nuevo Vallarta. With its residences, condominiums, villas, bungalows and some small hotels, in this area you breathe the atmosphere of a typical Mexican village. Here there are also some international restaurants that throughout the years have become famous amongst locals and visitors.

Bucerias

The beach of Bucerias is extensive and it receives the fresh breeze throughout the whole day, though stronger in the afternoons, constantly moving the palm trees that decorate the countryside. A very widespread activity amongst the visitors is to enjoy horseback riding on the beach.

It is said that the name of Bucerias was given to the place because many years ago the place was often visited by "divers" catching oysters. As a matter of fact the village grew famous due to its production of oysters and still up to the 80's oysters were sold in the restaurants as well as in little stands next to the highway. At present the majority of typical restaurants are found on the beach and there the famous fresh oysters are served in their shells, as well as regional dishes with recipes based on seafood and fresh fish.
